Paul Cardall's Benefit Concert

Living For Eden.....Paul's darling 3 year old daughter. The benefit concert was for Paul who has been waiting 231 days on the heart transplant list.

Backstage with Ryan Shupe, Paul Cardall and Kurt Bestor . We originally weren't going to bring our kids to the concert but Paul talked us into it and told us he wanted us to come back stage before the concert with our kids. They had a great time and wore their back stage pass badges to school the next day!

Backstage with Peter Breinholt and David Tolk.

Me and my hubby

Max is wearing his 'Gracie necklace' that Liz and Heidi (angel heart moms) made him and my other kids......thanks you guys :)

Taylor and his ring pop. My kids are sugar addicts.

Hmmmmmm.....is this the face of an innocent girl? Think again! :) Callie was SUCH a stinker at the concert!! She ran up and down and up and down the aisles almost the whole night. We had to take her to the bathroom once, and another time to get a drink (even though I made sure I took her to the bathroom right before the concert started!). No amount of bribery would work. We tried about 5 different kinds of treats. She would eat a little bit of her treat and then off she went to run free!!

Me and the kids.....Tom was missing in action.

Callie salivating over the Cinderella dress up that was in the silent auction.

Me and my friend (of 30 years!!) Marci.

Me and Brytten, Teagan's mom. We met Brytten in the hospital right after Gracie was born. Her son was born 10 days earlier. The picture below is of them together when we went to visit Teagan after his Glenn surgery. We always said they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Now Teagan will have to find another gal :( :( :(
Our family had been looking forward to this concert for a long time. It was worth the wait!! We had an INCREDIBLE night. We saw so many of our friends and family and had a GREAT time. I wish I could've gotten a picture with everybody! We are so grateful for all of you who came out to support Paul (and Gracie!). The musicians were great. They had Kurt Bestor, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, Peter Breinholt, Sam Payne, David Tolk, and Colors.

My sister Stephanie recorded the song/tribute (thanks Stef!!!) that they had Peter Breinholt do for Gracie. It was so surreal to see a huge slideshow of my sweet baby for over 3,000 people to see. What a special experience. You could almost hear a pin drop when the song was over.
Take a look: (you can pause my playlist music at the bottom and then hit the play button at the bottom of this little video clip)

When I met Paul's mom earlier in the evening, she told me that Paul was probably going to play at the end of the concert and that he was planning on playing 'Gracie's Theme'!!!!! My heart sank with the weight of emotion I was feeling. I told her that I would for sure be needing some Kleenex and I forgot to bring some!! She very thoughtfully tracked down a pack and split it with me!! :) Here is the video clip of Paul playing 'Gracie's Theme' in honor of Gracie and all of our other little heart buddies. It was awesome to hear him play it live.

This was a night we will never forget. I will never be able to express how thankful we are to Paul. The fact that he has only written ONE song since he has been listed for transplant and that song is for Gracie is overwhelming. We have been so lucky to receive so much love and support. We want to thank Paul for sharing his big night with our girl. We want to thank him for helping keep Gracie's memory alive, a memory that will live on through this song.

In regards to the blog entry that Peter Breinholt read before the tribute, I too wish I could've attended one of Paul's concerts with Gracie on my lap. But I do look forward to attending his concert POST TRANSPLANT with Paul feeling a whole lot better and having a new lease on life.

Please pray for Paul, we need him around for many, many more years to come!!

WOW!!! Thank you for sharing the videos and pictures!! If only we lived closer, I would have loved to come to the concert. The tribute to Gracie was beautiful and what a great surprise to have Paul play "Gracie's Theme". I'm sure there were many tears.

We continue to pray for you. Gracie will never be forgotten!

I'm so glad you shared this with us! What a beautiful, magical night...so sad we lived too far away to attend. Gracie is such a blessing to all and her memory will forever stay alive. She's touched all of our hearts and I'll never look at my daughter the same, without thinking of yours. Thinking of you often and you'll all continue to be in our prayers.

Michele,
The entire night was so special. Gracie's spirit is still so incredibly strong and so incredibly real. I was wrecked by the end of the night. I cannot imagine how you made it through it except for the fact that you had to be so incredibly proud of your girl--I was.

Hey! I made your blog! :) We had a great night at the concert - I am so grateful we were able to attend. Paul and his incredibly talented friends are such an inspiration. We are such huge fans of Paul and pray everyday that he will get the transplant that he needs. His music has touched our entire family! Kade has even downloaded a bunch of his songs to his Ipod and is learning Paul's arrangement of "I Am a Child of God" on the piano. The fact that we got to hear him play "Gracie's Theme" was absolutely overwhelming. I couldn't hold back the tears. We could really feel the connection between Gracie and him as he played. I am so grateful that Stephanie video taped it so we can experience both of the Gracie tributes over and over again. Obviously, there is no better way I could have spent my birthday - it was amazing!! I hope you were able to feel comfort that evening. What an amazing night for everyone. Paul is loved by so many.

Thank you for posting about the concert. The tears are again flowing from watching that slide show. Seeing Sweet Gracie in her Bumbo watching her siblings was so touching. I have fallen in love with Paul's music. It's all I ever want to listen to now. Hearing your sister crying on the video while Paul is playing "Gracie's Theme" once again breaks my heart.

I don't know why I can't be happy for where Gracie is now. I know she's happy and healed, but I just wish she was back here with you.

We continue to pray for you and your family everynight. My older girls have really had their hearts touched by Baby Gracie. We lost their Uncle Josh(age 14) 8 years ago during heart surgery. They love these little heart babies. We pray that you can continue getting through each new day without Sweet Gracie, as it will also bring you one day closer to seeing her again.

That gives me goosebumps! Losing someone is never easy, but at the same time you realize how much you and your family are loved. I couldn't believe how many people supported us after my mom passed away when I was 11. I remember seeing grown men who had probably never shed a tear bawling like babies when the cops came to tell us about her car accident. Those are the things that I remember the most. Gracie was an amazing little girl and she touched so many lives. I know that I hug my baby boy tighter and longer than I used to. Your family is such an inspiration! I can't even imagine what you have been through, but I can tell that your testimony still shines brightly. Many prayers from Idaho!

Thank you so much for sharing those videos with all of us. I wanted so badly to go to the concert, but when I went to get tickets, they were sold out. My heart sank, because I had been so anxious and excited to see the tributes to sweet Gracie. I'm glad your sister recorded them, and that I was still able to see them. Paul is an incredible man, and how sweet of him to have such a love for your little Gracie. Her memory is very much alive...and those pictures of her in the slide show were beautiful...I especially liked the close up one of her with no feeding tube and the one playing with her brothers...what sweet memories. Thank you for inspiring me and for being such an example. You are truly amazing.

Tom and Michelle,
Thank you for sharing a piece of the concert for Paul Cardall. The songs were beautiful. As I searched for words of comfort for you and your family, I read these words in another blog and thought it was perfect and said it all.
"We pray that you can continue getting through each new day without Sweet Gracie, as it will also bring you one day closer to seeing her again."
I love you, Gledhill family and Little Gracie girl, and you have touched my heart in a way no other could have.

Michele, Thanks for promoting this benefit concert. It was absolutely amazing! I am so glad that we went. What an amazing tribute to Gracie. I balled my eyes out!! The spirit was so strong, the music was so touching and it just goes to show what a wonderful man this Paul Cardall is. They put on a benefit concert for him and he turns the focus away from himself and honors Gracie. He is so selfless and loving! We will be praying for him that he can get a heart soon. What a wonderful man! What a wonderful night! Thanks again!

I loved the pictures that went along with the concert recap. You definitely need to blow some of those up and frame them. We LOVED the concert! After Gracie's slideshow, Megan cried the rest of the night. But it was an incredible night...and when Paul played Gracie's Theme I think I stopped breathing for 5 minutes straight. Megan thinks it's pretty cool that Gracie was friends with Paul Cardall. That will be a great day when Paul gets his heart. Then we can become roadies and go to all of his concerts. :):)

I found your blog through a family member's and have had your family and Gracie on my mind ever since. Thank you for sharing your story. I recently read this poem and could think ONLY of Gracie. I hope you do too.

Once upon a special day...
In heaven up above...
The tiniest souls sat at God's feet...
Surrounded by his love...
The time was coming...very soon...
God said..."Do not be scared"...
Your family awaits your arrival...
Now let us get prepared...
And so... God looked upon these souls...
In mute consideration...
He knew the life each one would live...
He weighed each situation...
The souls chatted amongst themselves...
And wondered who they'd be...
They knew the day grew closer...soon...
They'd meet their family.
"How would you like to change the world"?
God asked each soul in fun...
"The chance to make a difference"...
Is held by only one.

I'm going to make the world laugh...
One soul said with a smile...
For laughter heals a broken heart...
And helps us through each trial...
Then take with you the brightest smile...
And share your laughter well...
The soul thanked God immensly...
And down to earth he fell.

"And I'll remind the world to sing...
A sweet little soul told the Lord...
I have the gift of a beautiful voice...
I can hit every note...every chord.
You'll have the gift of music then...
A voice...lovely and strong...
Share your gift with others...
And let them hear your song.

I will show compassion....
The next little soul raised his hand...
Some people only need a friend...
Someone to understand.
Compassion is a good thing...
God said with much delight...
To you... I will give mercy...
You'll perceive wrong from right.

And so each soul...shared every thought...
Their plans, their hopes, their dreams...
As God explained that life...it is...
Much harder than it seems.
And as each soul began to leave...
In a scurry of laughter and fun...
Heaven became quiet...
Left...was only one.
Come sit with me my little child...
God said with just a sigh...
Do you know how many you will touch...
In a world left wondering why?
From the moment that your life begins...
You... will know of strife...
But you'll teach those who know you...
To cherish the small things in life.
And some may only know you...
Through a simple photograph...
They'll never hold you in their arms...
Or memorize your laugh...
Some may only know you...
through the words they read each day...
But you'll do something wonderful...
You'll make them stop...to pray.
The tiniest soul...raised her head up...
To touch God's firm, strong hand...
Father...I am ready for...
The life...that you have planned.
And I will do the best I can...
Without a word or deed...
For you Lord...are the planter...
And I will be your seed.
She could already hear many praying...
And although they had not seen her face...
They were praying for her safe arrival...
They were asking for mercy and grace.
What talent do I leave with Lord?
What gift do you impart?
All that you will need God said...
I've placed within your heart.
And so God kissed this tiny child...
Knowing all that she would be...
And whispered as he watched her go...
You'll teach them...to see me

I am glad that you got to attend this special concert.

Our new born grandson has spent this past week in Primary Children's hospital. He was sick but never in serious trouble. However, him being there made me think of you even more....and what you went through.

I introduced my artist friend in England to your blog. She has been greatly touched by Gracie. She just painted a new picture which she calls "Gracie gets her wings".
She wants to send it to you.

However you can get a sneak peek at
