Sisters

Here is a rare moment when Callie is making Gracie smile instead of CRY! Unfortunately the sisterly bonding at home has not been the best. Most of the time Callie really bugs Gracie and makes her cry. She literally smothers her with kisses and hugs and all kind of physical contact. I am sure this will get better with time. Callie has had a hard time giving up her throne to the new little princess of the house. I am so glad they have each other. The main reason we had a fourth child was because I wanted Callie to have a sister so bad. Now she has one, I hope they have many, many, fun memories together.

p.s. Gracie is doing great! This whole week she has only thrown up once each day and even had a day where she did not throw up AT ALL......this was a RECORD. I don't think she has ever gone one day since she had the feeding tube where she did not throw up at least a little bit. So hopefully we are turning the corner on this issue! It has made life much more pleasant. She still fusses quite a bit and definately prefers to be in her crib which makes me a little sad. She sleeps a lot during the day and does not seem to have much energy to stay awake for long periods of time. She sleeps all night (for about 9 hours!) while she is on her continuous feed which has been a life saver. I only have to get up once in the night to refill her food and give her one medicine. The coughing wakes us up but she is getting better with this too. I have read a lot of Gracie's heart friend's blogs lately and I have to admit, it gets me depressed to hear of some of them dying. You get into a false sense of security once you are home and sometimes start to think they are 'normal' and then reality brings you back to real life of facing at least two more heart surgeries and other health problems. I think the next surgery in a couple of months is going to be much harder to deal with because we know her so much better and she has become a real member of our family now. We have all bonded with her and love her so much. I just pray, as all heart moms do, that her mission on earth will be a long one. Either way, we are so lucky to have her in our family!

Ohh! That is so cute of the two of them! It probably just feels great to have the normalcy. It is very real when these heart kiddos pass, I remember my best friend that works as an RN calling me the week before Ryker was born to tell me two little baby boys had passed away. I was mad at her, and just brushed it off, not ever realizing that it would ever be me that would lose my heart baby. I pray for Gracie, and she truly is a miracle!
Heart hugs,

They look so cute together. I'm sure they will learn to be great friends. They have their mom as an example of how to love her sister. I'm so glad that she is not throwing up as much and that she is sleeping at night. She is still a little miracle baby and is meant to be a part of your family. Love you, Susan

What a cute video of your sweet little girls! I am so happy to hear that Gracie is thriving and doing well at home! She is such a miracle baby and many people have fallen in love with your sweet little Gracie girl! It is always so sad to hear of these tiny heart babies not making it, I think that it makes those babies that do make it all the more a miracle!

That video is soooo cute! That is something you will cherish forever no matter what her outcome is-that's so great to have! It's good to hear she is tolerating her food better hopefully she will just continue to improve! We are praying for her mission here to long as well. --I was cleaning out Jaxon's school backpack (so soon I know!) anyway I found his journal, in march and april he had numerous drawings of what I think were Gracie in her little "container" like he used to call it. It just made me think of how much your sweet baby has touched all of our lives, especially my kids! They have witnessed a true miracle, something some people don't ever experience in a life time! Thanks for sharring her with us! XOXOX

That video is the most precious thing I've ever seen! Even though it sounds like it's not always so precious, it's nice that you caught one of the good moments on video. I hope things continue to go well. That's awesome that she sleeps so good at night so you can get some good sleep to take on the day!

That's a cute video. When she isn't smiling she's intent on what Callie is doing. She looks so healthy and strong. I'm so happy that she is keeping her feedings down. This is great news.

Thanks for letting me see little Gracie while I was there... she is more adorable in person! It was also fun to have Cally and Taylor over to play with my kids for a couple hours. They are nice kids. I am sure you already know, but I thought I would mention blurb.com for making your blog into a book. I just did it, and it is a lot of fun and pretty simple. Blurb.com just sucks everything from your blog and then you drag and click the writing and pictures into the format you like. I haven't ordered my book yet so I don't know exactly what it costs, but this blog will be perfect in a book form for you guys to have! Have a good week!

The next surgery will be harder to hand her over for. However, the recovery is so much easier and life on the other side so much better because the Glenn is part of the permanent repair. I hear you on reading other blogs, sometimes it hits me like a ton of bricks when I read about bad things happening to other HLHS kids. But I try to stay in the moment and enjoy each day, because each one is truly a gift.
