Chubby Cheeks, Fluffy Hair

Two attributes that every girl wants to have, chubby cheeks and fluffy hair!! Unfortunately, she got the chubby cheeks from me!! Here she is, looking at me in her little bed. I tried holding her and she just got to fussy with me. When I put her back she was perfectly content. I will try not to take it personal and hope that she will enjoy being held more in the future. She has been fairly fussy the last few days when people have tried holding her. They are weaning her down off her pain/sedation medications so I think that has something to do with it. Just think, she is actually starting to have the attitude of a real baby, this is good!!

Gracie has had a good couple of days. They put a PICC line in her left arm so it will be easier to give her her antibiotics and other meds. IV's tend to fail easier so they decided to take those out and put in a PICC line since she will have her antibiotics for another several days. She is down to 2.5 on her high flow nasal cannula and seems to be doing very well. This is the number one thing they are watching with Gracie now. Once she can transfer to a regular nose cannula and tolerate being off of it for a few days, then we will move to the third floor. But they are going to take it really slow and not send her up there prematurely. I think it will be the beginning of next week maybe??? No one has really said. The doctor said that her left diaphragm is not paralyzed but just weakened. (Apparently the other doctors were reading it wrong.) When you inhale, your diaphragm goes down, Gracie's only goes down a little bit which is why her breathing has been a little faster than normal. It is supposed to heal on it's own but if it doesn't, they go in and suture it down (like I mentioned in an earlier post).

They changed her wound vac yesterday and the plastic surgeon said that it looked good but was not healing as fast as he would like it to, so he ordered her to have more food through her feeding tube to boost her bodies ability to heal itself through better nutrition.

Gracie is improving and we are grateful for that. She is our miracle baby.

It is very cool to see the progress she is making! So we will add diaphram to our list of prayers. With everything that she has come through, it would seem to me her diaphram will come in line also. She kinda has that wistful look, like "GET ME OUTTA HERE!!" :-)

I love her chubby cheeks! I was so happy when our little Ryker still had his chubber cheeks after everything, and I am glad that she still has hers! Cute hair. It really is baby steps, and what a but of spirit she has! Withdrawal is not fun from pain meds and hopefully she will get back to loving being held!
Heart hugs,
Emily and Mike

Hi Michelle, our family has been following Gracie's progress and we are just so happy for all the great developments recently. What a fighter she is! I just thought I would throw this out to you - have you asked the doctors at all about adding any probiotics to her milk? After a lot of antibiotic use they can be extremely beneficial to the whole immune system. My daughter had a very severe reaction to too much antibiotics and she used a probiotic called Cuturelle to literally rebuild her digestive "flora" since all the good and bad bacteria get killed off. (And your body needs the good bacteria to be able to get the most out of food) And since you mentioned the plastic surgeon wanting her to get more from her food, I thought I would mention it. If you have any questions about it, you can leave a comment on my blog.
Take Care,
Laurie
