Extubation

They took Gracie's breathing tube out at about 2:30p.m. today. She is doing ok, not great, not terrible. She is on hi-flow oxygen and her saturation levels are hovering in the high sixties to mid seventies. Her respiratory rate (which is how many breaths she takes in one minute) are a little high. I got to hold her (YAY!!) and she breathes quite heavily, kind of like she just ran 3 miles. So they are watching her closely if she doesn't continue to improve, they will intubate her again. (AAAHHHHH!) The hardest part of this whole experience is going from hopefulness to hoplessness, and doing that several times a day. Like most heart families will say, it is truly like a roller coaster ride, that is the best comparison. We will hopefully get her heart transplant blood results back tomorrow. It will be a big day, I will post the results when I get them.

I remember visiting the last time she got her tube out. I wish I could have been there today, dang Presidents Day-O-kids. I hope she gets good news tomorrow. This is one of the WORST roller coaster rides I have ever been on. It never ends, there is more downs than ups, and just when you think the ride is over, it starts all over again. Get me off!

It doesn't sound like a very fun roller coaster ride. Sweet Gracie, I hope they don't have to intubate her again. Hang in there guys!

We are so praying that she can stay exubated... maybe she just needs LOTS of cuddle time!

I will be on teh lookout tomorrow for a WONDERFUL post about how low Gracie's antibodies are! :)

This truly is a rollercoaster ride...ups and downs... most of the time I feel upside down like I might just fall off! Hopefully in the next six months we'll be celebrating our babies new hearts and watching them THRIVE!

What the heck! We left town for a couple of days and things go crazy over at your house (or your second home, PCH). I am so sorry all of this is happening to Gracie. We pray for her always, but will target our prayers to what she is going through right now. Michele, you need to call me to let me know what I can do to help with the other kids. Or what I can do to help you. Good luck with all of the tests tomorrow. It just has to be good news!!!
Lots of love!!!

Michele,
We're praying all the tests come back just as they should to put Gracie in the right place at the right time for the right heart. Stay hopeful! She is a miracle and so are you. We're wishing you an "up" day and look forward to reading up on all your good news tommorrow.

xoxo,
Mindi and McKay

Gracie and you are in my constant thoughts and prayers. I hope you can find some peace in the craziness of the hospital.

Oh my gosh, Michele! I've been out of town and so much has happened while I've been away (and not for the better!) I'm so sorry and I just feel so helpless. We will continue to pray for you all, especially for Gracie who is my new found hero - seriously! By the way, Tiffany did an awesome job with Gracie's collage - it's beautiful!

Gracie's name tag is so precious! I don't think anyone could see those pictures and not fight their hardest to help her. I'm so glad you got to hold her again and I will pray that the blood tests come back with good news!

waiting with bated breath for Gracie's results. She seems like a spitfire-just like my March 08 heart baby...I'm praying that her chtuzpuah carries her through!!

oh, and the diaper rash...I know it's the least of her worries, but Bert's Bees baby powder works wonders on my kids!

Hope is a hard thing to hold on to when it seems like everything is going wrong. But you know what gives me hope - it is Gracie and her wonderful family. We all know that Gracie is an excemptional spirit - one that God knew could handle very challenging circumstances. A giant spirit in a little body. She seems to fight so hard every time to keep life when it appears to be sliping away from her - her fight for life in spite of all the pain and discomfort she faces gives me hope - a lot of hope! Her family that will do everything possible to assist her in that fight for life no matter what the personal cost - that gives me hope! In a crazy world where some people are so confussed they go into a tent and blow up 50 women and children up in the name of religion, I am so grateful that I live next to a family that values life and turns to their kind Heavenly Father for hope and faith. Tommorrow is a new day, I will hope for good news for Gracie.
