My Gorgeous Gracie

This is Tom posting.

I was told that’s it my turn to post, so here goes! First of all, thanks for all the kind words on the comments from Michele’s last post about keeping me in your prayers! I can’t truly express adequately with words just how grateful we are for the many prayers, the faith, hope, love, support, and sustenance that we’ve received and continue to receive!

This seems strange to share, but for some reason I feel like I need to today. Just after we returned back from seeing confirmation on the high risk ultra-sound that my sweet baby did indeed have HLHS, I was working at my office, concentrating on a work related issue, and out of nowhere, I felt literally surrounded by the comforter. This continued day after day, and it was a truly remarkable experience. It took me some time to realize that this was a gift that was being given to me during this time we have with Gracie. I can literally feel the prayers of love and support. At this awful time, when I’d rather be anywhere other than here, I am being buoyed up by all our amazing family, friends, neighbors, and new blog friends. I know that we have a lot of family members out of town that would love to be here to support us and we want you to know that we are being strengthened by your prayers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I also want everyone to know that we are willing to fight, kick, scratch, do anything necessary to give Gracie the very best chance at living a happy life!! So don’t give up hope, we’re not! Again, we don’t know where the road we’re on will carry us, but we’re absolutely here for the ride!!

Update on Gracie: She was listed this morning for a new heart. We’re so grateful for the wonderful, amazing donor family who gave our daughter a chance at life. And we're doing everything possible to help make this heart work for Gracie. This is probably her best shot. But we’re also grateful for the chance to possibly get a heart that has a little more giddy-up in it!

They’ve done the regular stuff with Gracie that occurs with ECMO babies….brain scans for bleeding, echo’s of the heart, X-rays of her lungs, etc. Dr. K. also did some work on her this morning, clearing an air pocket that had collapsed her right lung, and adding a couple of new chest tubes to help clear the excess blood. She remains stable, and is still recovering from the surgery. When I came in, I asked them to put a blanket over her, for some reason, I just need to see that she has a blanket. We talked to the ICU doctor this afternoon and he just wanted to get a feel for how we were feeling about the whole situation and what we wanted to happen over the next few days as far as what our wishes in regards to how long we want to do this. In talking with him further, he said that chances of her heart working when it never worked in the beginning are under 10 percent. The problem today is that she is bleeding quite a bit and they cannot seem to get it under control. Our response to him was that we want to give her a few more days and see how she is doing. We feel she'll let us know.

Thanks again to everyone for all you do!!

I know EXACTLY what you mean about the blanket! For my daughter, it was socks... I just insisted she have cute socks on! :)

Thank you for the update.. I know I'm not the only one who checked for one at least 2 dozen times today. I am so glad that she was re-listed.. and I'm glad that she is stable.. and more than anything, I am glad to hear the fight and hope in your "voice", yet see your faith to follow the journey wherever it may lead. You guys are an inspiration to all of US!

Still praying for Gracie...

He is the one person who loves Gracie even more than you guys. I hope you continue to feel a blanket of love around you too!!! Much love to you guys-thanks for the update!

Thank you so much for the update. We are continuing to pray for your little Gracie and your entire family. She is such a miracle and inspiration to so many. All our love.

The one thing that stuck out from your post was that the doctor said the chance of her heart working again is less than 10%...No problem...we all know that Gracie only needs a 1% chance to make it work, right?

Seriously though, Tom I love it when you post. There is something so tender to "hear" your words describing your baby girl. I'm so glad you insisted on a blanket. Gracie does love them so much, doesn't she?

I know that she was at the top of the list before, but I would think she's at the tippy top now with her current condition. I've got to go get my motion sickness pills ready for the next roller coaster ride because I'll be on it right along with you.

It's good to know you guys are feeling our prayers because it's such a helpless feeling knowing there's not much else we can really do for now.

Sweet dreams Gracie...

Tom, I can feel that same strength that I have felt from you since the first time I met you many years ago. You amaze and inspire me and I'm so proud and grateful to have been a part of your life. You, Michele, your darling children and precious Gracie are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. As you know, the Lord has an individual plan for each of us. The faith and endurance that you have passed on to your little daughter will help her to fulfill her plan here, whatever that will be. She's your little girl, after all. May you continue to feel His comfort and love surround you. (and maybe a little of your "other mother's" arms around you too)

Way to keep a blanket on your baby Daddy. =) Babies should always be tucked in with a cozy blanket.

Our friends and family are praying for you, churches galour spoke your babies name in sermons over this weekend, husband and wives, mothers and fathers, put their hands to the Heavens for your family and it will not cease...

I know you may not have to hear this with in ever post, but along with all those that love and support you, I want to repeat it so you simply see it.

Much love, concern and prayers for your family... Livy and company.

Gracie girl is absolutely gorgeous! The things our little ones have to go through is simply unfair! It's crapppy for them and it's crappy for us parents who have to watch and wait, desperately praying for the outcome we so rightfully deserve. Through everything I've learned one of the biggest is that we aren't in charge but for everything that's taken we are greately compensated. You already know that Heavenly Father has big plans for little Gracie and I pray mightily those plans include her here on earth with her mommy and daddy. Praying for only the best!!

Tom - it was great to hear from you. You have such a way with words, and I love your attitude. I love what you said about being there for the ride. And what a ride it has been so far! We have absolutely fallen in love with Gracie. Thanks so much for the update.

Michele - you have been on my mind constantly. And everyone's. My sweet neighbor even pulled me over today to ask about Gracie's progress, and I have been getting many calls and emails to find out how she is doing. It is just amazing how much Gracie has touched everyone like she has - just one of the many miracles this sweet baby has brought to all those who hear her story. It is as if everyone can feel her sweet spirit through the stories you have shared. How awesome it must be to be the mother of such a little angel. I am sorry for the unimaginable stress you must be having right now though. And of course, we are still praying. Gracie is quite the girl! If anyone can pull off what she needs to, it is absolutely her. Love you!
