I got here this morning and things are still going well with our Gracie Girl. She has continued to come down on all the medications that they want her to come down on. They will proabably not come down on any more until her chest is closed. Dr. K came in this morning and said that they will clean her chest out today and possibly close her chest! Aaaaaahhhh. But he will have to see how she looks when they get in there. I have heard that it can be common for them to close her chest and have her not do well and have to open them back up. That happened to our little friend here, Teagan, then they closed him again a few days later and he did well. She still seems to be quite swollen though, so we will see. They have a couple of procedures to do in the Operating Room so they will either try and fit her in in between procedures or they will do it later this afternoon when they are done.
We have been spoiled all this time to have a corner room and to be able to sit outside the room in these two chairs in the corner, which has given us some privacy to talk, blog etc. When I got here this morning, some tech moved our chairs into Gracie's room and moved a cart to the spot we used to sit saying that it was a fire hazard. Quite the bummer because it is not the same at all to sit in that room with the nurses and have everyone hear all your conversations. That has actually been one of the hardest things to deal with-----NO PRIVACY. You are constantly around strangers and I have never been able to be alone with my baby. So when we had those really hard days, there were always two nurses watching everything you did and said to your baby. But, we'll take it if all of this will get her well and out of the hospital!! They have really given her excellent care and I have never once thought they didn't know what they were doing. Quite the opposite, I am amazed how smart everybody is around here.
I will post later when we have the procedure done and see how it goes!! Our Gracie continues to defy the odds and is truly a miracle. When I called the night nurse last night she said how excited she was that Gracie was doing well. I asked her if she had ever seen a heart baby her age come off ECMO after 11 days and she said NO, not ever at Primary Childrens. So, even though the nurses don't use the term 'miracle'. I will. Gracie is a 'miracle', thanks to everyone's fasting and prayer. Thanks again for all of your concern, I will post later!

I am so glad to hear that she is continuing to do well. I hope that everything will go well when they close her chest and that she will be able to work towards coming home with you. I can't imagine how physically and mentally exhausted you all are. We will still continue to pray everyday for you and your family.
Love,
Lara
Sounds like great news so far!! These last few days have been pretty exciting for us to see and watch. I have appreciated being able to share this with Isaac and Ainsley and watch their faces light up when they talk about what a miracle this is. I know that our testimonies have been strengthened!
To read your words of just trying to get her well so that she can leave the hospital is such a breath of fresh air from last week at this time. They might even close up her chest soon? Can this really be happening? Your precious baby IS SO SPECIAL!! We continue to check for updates and are so thrilled that the news just gets better everyday! Our whole family can't wait to see her and join with the rest of the world in spoiling her when she gets home! It looks like it's just a matter of time now. I pray that you and Tom will continue to be able to handle the stresses of everyday life and that Gracie will continue to defy the odds and take another giant step today toward a full recovery. If only you could see the smile on my face...I'm so happy for all of you right now! We love you Gracie--keep working hard--we're praying for you!

The first thing we were told before Owen went in for his Norwood is... babies that don't come off ECMO after 48 hours...don't typically make if off. I would say that Gracie is a MIRACLE indeed. Everyday I am amazed by your family and her strength. I know first hand how hard it is to have NO PRIVACY, but it gets better. Gracie is a tough little bug and I'm sure she'll continue to do well! I hope things go smoothly with the closing of the chest.

This is such great news! It has made my day. So glad that things are progressing in such a positive way! I'll check in later to see how things have gone. My kids ask first thing when they get home everyday - "How's the baby now? She's still here right?" I will be so glad to tell them the good news. It's Mackenzie and Madison's b-day and I can't think of a better present than good news about amazing Gracie! We love you guys!

We will pray for her extra hard tonight in case they do decide to close up her chest. I hope the swelling goes down and all goes well. I'm sorry your privacy has been taken away - that would definitely take its toll. I can't believe you are going through all this on top of recovering from having a baby and taking care of 3 kids! You are wonder woman! We love to hear all the good news so keep it coming Gracie!
She truly is a miracle! I can't stop the flow of tears again! I am so grateful to our Father in Heaven for letting this little girl stay here with us...we will continue to pray that her stay is extended for a long time.
You hug and kiss her from her Peterson strangers, here in Ogden.

You don't know my family but I'm friends with Leslie Jensen and my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I actually cried tears of joy reading your last post. She is a miracle no way around it. Good luck and stay strong. I've gone through tough medical stuff with my kids (nothing close to this) and I know how sometimes you just don't want to make the hard decisions anymore, but you seem to be doing an amazing job of keeping it together. Prayers for that sweet baby are coming from places you can't even imagine! take care!
We're so happy about the good news! I too am sooooo amazed at the strength of your sweet baby! I had a few cookies on her behalf and today at ww it showed, but hey it was for a good cause! We sure love her and have been so touched by the miracle we have witnessed. Ally just said, "she is so cute, I wish I could marry her-but I know I can't" Anyway, have a great and boring day! Maybe friday we will do play group in SL with adults only-we'll let you know. xoxoxox
Love, Shana
I watch for your posts with anticipation, anxious to hear good news. So glad you little fighter has such a determined spirit. Years from now when she stands her ground against Mom and Dad, you'll have to remind yourselves what a great quality that is :)

We used Gracie's miracle as our FHE last night. We talked about faith, prayers, and the love Heavenly Father has for us individually. My thoughts drift to you and your baby frequently through the day. We pray that all continues to go well. You are my hero Michele!!
I am so very happy for you guys. If it's one thing I have learned on our journey, it's that miracles really DO happen!!
Gracie is amazing, she knows that she has a family who loves her unconditionally.
Sometimes I wonder if Heavenly Father gave us Rhett to help us remember that He is in control, and that we need to always have faith in him and his plan.
Still sending lots of prayers and hugs your way!!
