Latest Update

Tom and I got here this morning and Gracie looks very good. She had another good night and morning. She is sleeping very peacefully. The latest update is that they are going to do her procedure at 1:00 or 1:30p.m. Our nurse said that Dr. Hawkins came in and looked at her this morning and seemed to have a look like he wasn't sure if they were going to be successful in closing her today or not. Her abdomen is still quite swollen. They are not going to do anything to compromise Gracie's situation but at the same time, they really want to get her chest closed because there is a risk of infection everyday she is open. So again, it is a wait and see situation. We all know that we are on 'Gracie time' around here. She seems to dictate when and what she will do. The nurses have already mentioned noticing that she has a little bit of an attitude when they are trying to do something to her. I'm sure she does after all she's been through!! These babies have to have some spunk to pull through something this difficult. Keep praying for our Gracie Girl, we love her and appreciate all the prayers, thanks!!

She sure does have spirit! There's no doubt about that. She has been through more than most of us have in our whole lifetimes and she's only 3 WEEKS!!! I'll keep praying for your little fighter.

Good for you Gracie! You show them some sass! I totally agree that these kids have to be tough! My Ryker got nicknamed pissy-pants by one of his nurses, and it was true! What a beautiful little sweetheart!

I think Gracie has pretty darn patient with all that's being done to her little body. It really is amazing how much they go through with this undeniable will and determination. She's a special little girl.

The doctors also didn't think she would come off of ECMO. I think Gracie has her own plan for everything!
You're such a fighter little girl, keep on fighting!
We are still praying for you and are grateful for every miracle that comes our way!
I hope we hear some good news soon!

I love that Gracie is letting her personality shine through. There is nothing wrong with a little attitude now and then - spunkiness is a good thing!! She really has been through a lot for such a little one. Thanks for the update! We are praying hard for her today!!

We hope that the doctors are able to close her up today, but if there is one thing that Gracie has taught us through this whole process, it's patience. If not today, then it will happen soon enough for her. It's so good to hear that she looks better each day and each hour! Maybe she'll surprise everyone again and be out of there in a few weeks! Love, hugs, and prayers coming from the Smiths.

I am in the same ward as Brynn and Alex and that is how I came to find Gracie. Please know that my thoughts and prayers have been with you for the last 2 weeks. I really do find myself wondering how she is doing at all times during the day and night. I am so happy to hear each day there is a small improvement, it always makes me smile when I read about it. Just know that little Gracie is loved by people that have never met her. I hope that she continues to improve and to amaze those doctors!!!

Great news about Gracie, if she is starting to show some attitude then she must be feeling a little better! When my daughters chest was closed Dr. Hawkins said the very same thing that he wasn't sure if she was ready yet, (they were going in to clean our spilled lipids) but they ended up closing her chest and she was fine, she did get an infection in her chest cavity but lots of antibiotics later that turned out to be alright too! Gracie is still in my prayers I really hope that her chest gets closed, these babies really start showing improvement after that!
