The Wait Is Over

We had a lovely Sunday at the hospital today. We brought Max with us and as you can see, he and Tom got to hold Gracie! (I did too!) She got lots of cuddle time today and behaved just like a lady. She was a very good girl, alert at times and calm and then sleeping soundly.

They decided to start treating her with antibiotics as a precaution to the high temperature from yesterday and her increased heart rate. However, today, her temperature was down and the cultures were negative for infection, YAY!! They did a couple spontaneous trials off the ventilator and she did well. They are talking about extubating (taking the breathing tube out) her tomorrow!! We will keep our fingers crossed. They are going to try and have her get rid of a little more fluid tonight so that she will be a good candidate for extubation in the morning. However, there is a possibility that they will extubate her and she will not handle it very well over the following hours. In this case, they would have to re-intubate her. They do this a fair amount of the time.

So, Gracie is really doing well. The main thing now is to get her extubated. Once she is extubated, we will basically be able to hold her all day!! I will post tomorrow.

p.s. Church here this morning was great. Again, very spiritual. Max enjoyed it.

What precious pictures!! We will keep our fingers crossed & pray that Gracie gets her tube out today. I bet she will be just as happy as you guys will to get that thing OUT!! I'm sure that getting to hold her helps heal both her and you!! Best of luck, we will continue to pray for your sweet girl.

Congratulations! I really hope that Gracie can get extubated soon, these babies seem to make so much more improvement after being extubated(or maybe it just fills that way because the time goes faster when you get to hold her more!)! I love those pictures with everyone holding little Gracie, they are so precious! She is still in my prayers!

This is by far my most favorite post on your blog yet! Seeing all of you cuddling your sweet Gracie - finally - is just the best! I've got my figers crossed for a successful extubation today. I'm so happy that her temperature is down and there is no sign of an infection. Her heart rate is up because she's just so excited and happy to finally be in your arms, duh? Hope all goes well today and that this week is full of nothing but UP's! Enjoy your cuddle time.
Love Leslie

Your blog just lifts my spirit, especially Max's unedited comments. I got tears in my eyes when I saw Michele holding Gracie but now Tom and Max just finishes me off! I think you have more prayers offered for your family and little angel then anyone I have ever known!!! We love ya and keep checking this out every day!
